For the McCauley family, hard work in North Central West Virginia is a generational tradition. Our roots in this area trace back over 300 years in the Appalachian Mountains. As proud, original Chestnut Ridge people, our history is tied to local pioneering legends like Billy "Indian" Ice, the early settlers of Ice's Ferry on the Cheat River, and the historic Camp Rock—where my great-grandfather was literally born under a rock while his family sought shelter during a Shawnee raid. That bloodline of rugged resilience, shared by generations of true Mountaineers, continued with my father, who spent his career working underground as a coal miner at Consol Energy’s Blacksville #2 mine and the historic Fairmont coal fields. It was in those very Fairmont mines where the legendary West Virginia pepperoni roll was first born—created as a rugged, non-spoiling meal for the coal miners, and today, it stands as a staple of every camping trip and tailgate we outfit.

Our journey into hospitality started with Allegewi Vacations, our Morgantown-based Airbnb and short-term rental company. We chose the name "Allegewi" to honor the ancient, legendary Native American tribe that first inhabited this region and gave the Allegheny Mountains their name. Managing these properties taught us exactly what it takes to deliver a 5-star, turnkey vacation experience for our guests.

Professionally, my technical background was built right here in Morgantown. I spent 20 years working in IT at Mylan, mastering complex problem-solving, and operated successful local businesses including Morgantown Home Improvement and Mountain High Construction. Today, I continue that technical career at Hope Gas—a proud company that serves all of West Virginia and sponsors the WVU Coliseum, home of the Mountaineers.

But my connection to this community goes far beyond business. I grew up playing on these local fields—even playing in the 1992 Pony World Series—and spent years giving back by coaching Morgantown Pony baseball and serving on the board of Morgantown Baseball. Today, you’ll still find me out on the diamond umpiring for the WVSSAC, at Mylan Park, and at fields all across West Virginia.
